Modulations is a mosaic in three movements which is inspired by the minimalist movement, in contemporary classical music, marked among others by the works of Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Arvo Pärt, but also by those of Francis Lai who signed several musical scores for Claude Lelouch's movies. Two masterpieces in particular shaped our writing: Koyaanisqatsi, by Philip Glass, and Tehillim, by Steve Reich. We express our deepest gratitude to these masters for the teaching they transmitted to us. Modulations is characterized by regular pulsations, repetitions of patterns which vary throughout the measures and an arithmetic rhythm in the Latin and Greek meanings of the words “arithmetica” and “arithmêtikê”, which mean the science of numbers imbued with symmetry. The parts of this canvas interpenetre themselves in a succession of paintings, styles and reminders of colors and shapes which gradually modify in a perpetual movement which disorient sensory perceptions in order to substitute an intuitive experience for logical and rational thought. At the end of the second movement, a short passage is intended to be a discreet tribute to Koyaanisqatsi. The duration of the work is 104,22 minutes. Its creation is planned to take place in spring 2025.
